Description
The International School of Latvia was founded in 1994 and is an independent co-educational, non-profit, college preparatory day school, which offers an educational program for children of all nationalities from 2 years to 18 years of age. Currently the student body is made up of nearly 30 different nationalities. The school year begins in August and finishes in June.

Location
ISL is located on the campus of the Bulduru Dārzkopības Vidusskola (Horticultural School). It is a 20-minute drive from the centre of Riga in the coastal resort of Jurmala.

Organization
A Board of Directors, elected by the International School Association of Latvia, governs the school. Membership is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of the students enrolled in the school. The school operates as a non-profit organization in Latvia.

Curriculum
The International School of Latvia is an International Baccalaureate World School. It is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) in grades Preschool through grade five and IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grades six through ten. The school was authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) beginning August 2004. French and German are offered as foreign languages to students from grades one through twelve if they meet the English fluency requirement. English as a Second Language classes are offered to students whose native tongue is not English and need additional English support. Other classes offered include: music, art, physical education, health, Latvian Studies. Field trips are taken during the school year. Upper level students attend CEESA (Central and Eastern European Schools Association) activities throughout the region.

Faculty
There are 29 full-time and 3 part-time teachers for the 2009/2010 school year. This includes 20 US, 11 Host Country, 2 European, 1 South African and 2 Canadian Nationals.

Facilities:
The classrooms, support services and administrative offices are in a newly renovated wing of the Bulduru Dārzkopības Vidusskola (Horticultural School). A new library/media center was built for the 2001 school year. There are three full computer labs. There is access to an indoor gymnasium, swimming pool and auditorium, and a fenced playground with facilities to play basketball and football together with a variety of play equipment. A range of after school activities is offered and the school liaises with local organizations to provide a comprehensive programme including golf, multi-gym, aerobics, bowling, ice-skating and tennis.
