Mr. Robertson-Jones is from Exmouth, England, and has taught in the UK, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, China and Latvia. He holds a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Management. In his free time, Mr. Robertson-Jones enjoys music, sports and photography.

Beth Martin

Mrs. Martin has been happy to call Latvia and ISL home for four years now. She has taught school for 14 years, 6 in music and 8 in theater. Her favorite musicals that she has directed are The Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. In her free time she enjoys travel, spending time with her husband and their very old cats, and making miniatures.

Dr. Krueger is from Colorado in the United States. She holds an Educational Doctorate in Leadership and Curriculum from Northeastern University. She has nineteen years of experience as an educator, including five in school leadership. She has worked in five different schools in five countries around the world. Dr. Krueger enjoys reading, snowsports, being outside, exploring the world, and enjoying precious moments with her friends and family.

Mrs. Atrens is from Sydney, Australia where she completed her teaching degree and graduate diploma in Expressive and Perfoming Arts. She has been working at ISL for 9 years. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, going to the theatre and other artistic persuits.

Sergejs Baltmanis

Short biography:

Mr. Baltmanis is from beautiful Latvia. He has been at ISL for five years as MYP PE Teacher and Athletics Coordinator. Mr. Baltmanis has Bachelor's Degree in English Philology with Swedish Language and Master's Degrees in Sports Science and Physical Education. In his free time, he enjoys doing sports and being outdoors. Mr. Baltmanis also serves in the reserve of Latvian National Armed Forces and is a true pleasure to be around.

Kasandra Battioni

Ms. Battioni is from the US and this is her first year at ISL. She has spent 28 years as a secondary humanities/language arts teacher and middle school administrator in American and international schools all over the world. She enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, yoga and mindfulness meditation.

Ms. Dace is from Latvia. She has been at ISL for eight years. Ms. Dace holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Pedagogy and is currently studying Sports Education. In her free time, she enjoys teaching aerobics and dancing.

Ms. Care is from Riga, Latvia and this is her 3rd year at ISL. Previously, for 10 years Ms. Care worked as a principal and English teacher in Riga State Gymnasium No.2. She holds a Master's degree in Educational Administration and English teacher qualification. She really enjoys travelling, swimming, cooking, and cats.

Laima Dimisevska

Ms. Laima is from Ottawa, Canada. Her Latvian background drives her passion for singing and celebrating Latvian traditions. Laima has been working at ISL for 9 years. She holds a BA in German and a college diploma in Travel and Tourism. In her free time, Ms. Laima enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

Dace Dlohi
Teacher, Visual Arts, Design Technology
Short biography:

Ms. Dace is from Latvia. She holds a professional BA in Art education. Ms. Dace has teaching experience of 10 years in Latvian State school, a voluntary teaching experience in India and 6 years at ISL. She has been teaching Visual Arts to PYP through DP students and Design Technology in Middle School. She loves gardening, outdoor activities with her family and all sorts of crafts. 

Anda Dubra

Short biography:

Ms. Anda is from Latvia. She holds a B.A. degree in Education and is a qualified Pre-school and Primary school Teacher. Ms. Anda has teaching experience of 9 years - 5 years in local kindergarten and 4 in ISL. In her free time, Ms. Anda enjoys travelling, sports and spending time with family and friends.

Melanija Dubra

Short biography:

Ms. Melanija joined ISL three years ago and has been wonderful teaching assistant for Grade 1. Her interests are related to Theater and Music, at the same time she really enjoys simple life - like driving a car and singing along the songs on radio. In her free time she is a student in University of Economics and Culture.  

Maciej Flisak

Short biography:

Mr. Flisak hails from Poland. He grew up in Canada via Nigeria and earned his degree in International Marketing at the University of Manitoba. He worked in Japan and Korea before going back to school to become a teacher. He started his teaching career in San Francisco and worked in inner city public schools for a decade. He taught in Singapore before coming to Latvia. He enjoys traveling, hiking, summitting mountains, graphic novels, Batman and time with his family.  

Laura Freija

Short biography:

Ms. Freija is from Latvia and this is her first year at ISL. It is her seventh year teaching middle school and high school mathematics. Previously she has worked at the University of Latvia for seven years. Ms. Freija has a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education for Grades 5-12 and a Master’s degree in Mathematics. She had an extra year of studies at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, USA. In her free time Ms. Freija enjoys running, hiking and watching movies.

Ieva Fridmane

Ms. Fridmane is from Riga, Latvia. She has a Professional Bachelor's degree in Health Care with a qualification in Speech Therapy. She has seven years of work experience in formal education and two years of experience in a medical institution working with children with disabilities. This is her second year at ISL. In her free time she enjoys dancing, drawing and spending time with her friends and family.

Mrs. Swagata is from India. She has a bachelors degree and a diploma in Preschool and Primary Education. She has been at ISL for 7 years. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, travelling and watching movies.

Ms. Ilvija is from Latvia. She holds a B.A. degree in education and has been teaching Preschool for 23 years. This is her 13th year at ISL. She loves traveling and seeing new places.  

Kristine Kalnina

Short biography:

Ms. Kristine is from Riga, Latvia. She has a degree in basics of pedagogical work and a Medical education. It's her 5th year teaching in preschool. She knows Russian, English, Italian and German. Ms. Kristine likes to spend her free time doing activities in nature, especially in the mountains, travelling and cooking.

Ms. Viktorija is from Riga, Latvia. She taught Russian and English languages in the UK for 6 years. She holds a Master's degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. She joined ISL in 2017. When not teaching, Ms. Viktorija enjoys travelling, swimming, cooking and playing volleyball. 

Nicole Kaser

Short biography:

Mrs. Kaser is from Northern Virginia in the US. She holds a B.A. degree in Sociology, an M.A. degree in Education and an advanced certification as a Reading Specialist. She has taught a variety of different grades across the United States as well as internationally in Germany and Russia before coming to Latvia. In her free time she enjoys reading, running and traveling with her family.

Dijana Koprivica Redshaw

Short biography:

Ms. K is originally from Belgrade, Serbia and has lived internationally since childhood. She has a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree from Lewis & Clark College. She is in her sixteenth year of teaching, and ISL is her fourth international school. Prior to becoming an educator, Ms. K worked with adolescent girls in a residential treatment center and in a prison-based alcohol and drug treatment center for women. Ms. K enjoys spending time with her small family, reading, biking, being outdoors, cooking, and reconnecting with friends. 

Veronika Kozel

Short biography:

Ms. Kozel was born in Prague and lived around the world growing up, including Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Germany, the US, Canada, Czech Republic, Belgium and Sri Lanka. She holds a B.S. degree in Languages and a M.Ed. degree in Education, and previously taught students from preschool age to adult in Prague, Bruxelles and Northern Virginia. She also worked for Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty. This is her second year at ISL, and she enjoys cooking, cinema, knitting, and elephants.

Ulvis Kravalis

Short biography:

Mr. Ulvis is from Latvija. He has B.A. degree in education. Before ISL he had lots of experience in working with children from different backgrounds in different settings - starting from juvenile prison, orphanages, crisis centers, to driving around schools and giving talks on relationships and sexuality. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, doing sports, reading, exploring new places and ideas.

Dace Lakse

Short biography:

Ms. Dace is from Riga, Latvia. She has been at ISL since 2002. She started working as a librarian and afterwards as a Latvian Studies, Latvian and Russian language teacher. She holds Bachelor's degrees in English and German and Library Science and Information. In her free time, Ms. Dace enjoys reading books, knitting, traveling and spending time with her family.

Sandra Laursone

Ms. Sandra  is from Latvia. She holds Master's degree in Multicultural Education. She has taught Preschool and Kindergarden grades at ISL over 20 years. Last two years she enjoyes being Grade 1 teacher. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, and cooking.

Inga Malta

Short biography:

Mrs. Malta is from Latvia. She has been at ISL for 11 years. Mrs. Malta holds a B.A. degree in Visual Arts Education. In school she enjoys seeing her students form their path in art. She is fluent in Latvian, English, and Russian. She loves to spend her free time traveling with her family. Her place for relaxing and inspiration is her garden. The source of her joy is her four kids. 

David Martin
Teacher, Performing Arts
Short biography:

Mr. Martin has been happy to call Latvia and ISL home for four years now. He has taught music in schools for 14 years. He plays all the instruments, but his main ones are tuba and bass guitar. In his free time, he likes to travel, spend time with his wife and their senior cats, and play music.

James Martindale
Teacher, Humanities, TOK
Short biography:

Mr. Martindale was born in NY, USA. He holds a B.A. degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, and a Master's in Business Management. He taught in American public schools for more than 20 years, and also worked in the private sector as Vice President of Health First Consulting Corporation. This is his second year at ISL. Jamie speaks Spanish & English, and enjoys his children & grandchildren, word puzzles, board games, and stand-up comedy.

Jason Melgaard
Teacher, EAL (English as and Additional Language)
Short biography:

Mr. Melgaard grew up on the balmy banks of Lake Michigan, in sunny Sheboygan, Wisconsin. After attending a variety of colleges, his undergraduate degree in Creative Writing was earned at the University of Colorado, Boulder. His graduate degree in International Studies is from the University of Denver. Mr. Melgaard is in his 17th year of teaching and has worked in the US, Korea, the UAE, India, and Latvia. In his free time he enjoys playing music, riding motorcycles and bicycles, and playing with plastic discs (also known as frisbees).

Zaiga Mikelsone

Short biography:

Ms. Zaiga is from Latvia. She has taught English at a public school, worked in a number of summer schools, including TASIS in the UK, and spent several years as the front-desk administrator here at ISL. She holds a Master's degree in English Philology and Cambridge CELTA qualification. Zaiga's "free time" is also her "busy time". She enjoys baking, reading, painting, going to the gym, playing board games or doing some more teaching.

Anne Payne

Short biography:

Ms. Payne is from Montana (US), and holds degrees from Oxford and The Ohio State University. Previously, she worked in International Admissions for University of Oregon and The Ohio State University (US). When she's not thinking about all things university-related, she enjoys hiking and being outdoors, music, and her sweet puppy, Harper.

Ms. Signe is from Liepaja, Latvia. This is her first year at ISL. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Humanities (French Philology) and Professional Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. In her spare time she enjoys reading, going to the theatre and swimming.

Kyle Redshaw

Short biography:

Mr. Redshaw is from Canada and has taught internationally for 22 years at 6 different schools in Spain, Switzerland, Egypt, Indonesia, China and now Latvia. He holds an Honours B.A. degree in Kinesiology and a B.Ed. degree in Kinesiology and General Science. In addition to teaching, he is a summer camp director for Village Camps. In his free time, Mr. Redshaw loves outdoor pursuits (skiing, biking, hiking, camping), tennis, reading, exploring the world, and enjoying special moments with his friends and family. 

Marla Robertson-Jones

Short biography:

Ms. Robertson-Jones is originally from the Seattle area in the United States. She holds a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Marla has been teaching overseas for the last 18 years at international schools in Africa and Asia. She is now enjoying exploring a new part of the world in her first year at ISL. She also enjoys swimming, yoga, jogging and spending time with her family.

Ms. Ita is from Jaunauce, Latvia. This is her second year at ISL. Ms. Ita has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, dancing, learning new languages, going to the theatre and spending time with her friends and family.

Ashley Sequoia

Short biography:
Ms. Sequoia is from San Francisco. She started her career in inner city public schools and has also taught in Seoul, Singapore, and now Latvija. She holds a Master's degree in Special Education and is passionate about creating inclusive mindsets in schools. Her two sons attend ISL and during her free time Ashley enjoys roller-skating, cycling, creating art, being in nature, reading, and exploring Latvija.

 
Rochelle Slachta

Short biography:

Ms. Slachta is from Michigan and has taught in the US, Kuwait, Singapore, The Netherlands, South Korea, and now Latvia. She holds a Master's Degree in Classroom Teaching - Elementary Education. One of her greatest passions is literacy, and finding the match between students and great literature! This is her second year at ISL. In her free time, Ms. Slachta most enjoys reading, running, baking, yoga, and spending time with her family.

Mr. Slachta is from Michigan and is in his 33rd year of teaching, 22 of those years internationally. He holds a Master's Degree in Reading (Diagnostics) from Western Michigan University, and a Bachelor's Degree in English and Health Education from Michigan State University. This is his second year at ISL, his fifth international school. In his spare time, he enjoys homebrewing.

Ms. Muzikants is an American-Latvian originally from Boston, USA. Ms. Muzikants has a Physician Assistant (PA) degree from Cornell University Medical College and worked in several ERs before moving with her family to Latvia. She has been at ISL for 10 years. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, enjoys all things Latvian, traveling and cooking.

Maris Neivalds

Short biography:

Mr. Neivalds was born in Riga, Latvia, and hasa 20 years of experience working with different building services engineering systems. This is his 7th year at ISL. Maris speaks 3 languages: Latvian, English and Russian. He studied engineering and business. His educational background includes M.A. degree in electronics engineering from Riga Technical University (RTU) and an MBA degree from Riga Business School. In his free time he enjoys spending time with the family, traveling and cooking.

Ms. Paurniete is from Latvia. She has worked in Latvia and also abroad. She holds a Master’s degree in Law and Finance from Riga Graduate School of Law, and has been at ISL for five years. In her free time Ms. Paurniete enjoys travelling, roller-skating and snowboarding.
